Where style meets sustainability

The Bowmont is a two-storey heritage building on the banks of the Huon River. With an ethos of Glam + Grit + Warmth + Wit the Bowmont is a multi-purpose space for creatives.

In the little boating village of Franklin, The Bowmont takes pride of place on the banks of the Huon River. Built as a bank in 1906, The Bowmont has endured a chequered past that includes a hospital, an abandoned derelict eyesore and community centre. Today it’s been reimagined as a creative event space and Airbnb that cherishes and preserves its colourful history.

In a style we call Tasmanian countryside cool, the first floor is a private two-bedroom apartment available for short stays. Downstairs is a studio available for hire and where we regularly host small gatherings.

It’s been decades since Matron had the hospital sisters polish the linoleum floors til they sparkled, and many facilities were last updated in the Whitlam era, but that’s just the way we like it. Mindful of the building’s past, we work through the slow process of renovating with a gentle hand, keeping those details that tell the Bowmont’s story. We’re keeping the grit, but adding glam, warmth and wit.

At the heart of what we do, we want our guests to feel warm, welcomed, and maybe a little transported, like visiting a gracious old country home with hospitable friends.
